If you have smaller-than-average hands, or you have kids who can't comfortably use a full-sized game controller, it's easy to modify the gamepad to better accommodate small thumbs.
This isn't a complete transformation, but it will at least make the control sticks easier to reach and manipulate. You can see the full process in the video above, but basically you'll use a Dremel to cut the "stalk" of the stick at an angle, rotate the top 180 degrees, then reattach it. You'll want the left stick facing out towards the left side of the controller, and vice versa for the right. The finished product probably won't be very comfortable if you can easily use an unmodified controller, but this would be great if you have an extra gamepad lying around for your kids.
